Oral Cancer – The Statistics
Oral Cancer is often overlooked as rare yet it kills one person every three hours (mouthcancerfoundation.org.uk) and this year in the UK, around 8,300 people will be given the life-changing news that they have mouth cancer. These numbers continue to rise while the disease claims more lives than cervical and testicular cancer combined. Yet most people have never heard of oral cancer or got themselves checked.
Get it checked, routine screening saves lives
At every routine examination we perform oral cancer checks on all of our patients as part of a thorough examination, but if you are like 50% of the UK population you probably don’t visit the dentist regularly and may be missing out on this essential check.
Mouth cancer can strike in a number of places, including the lips, tongue, gums and cheek. Given that early detection is so crucial for survival, it’s essential that you get checked out. If you can’t make it on the 13th November for a free check, then why not download our self-examination guide.
